Meet the face
behind the posts

Oh, hello! Welcome, welcome to this little slice of my life that I call my homepage. My name is Beth (AKA Sunshyne) and I'm very pleased to have you visit me here. May I offer you something to eat? There should be some cookies in the jar on the kitchen counter.

About me

I am a life-long homemaker, now empty-nester. That about sums it up but... let's see...

I am an American, living in the northern Midwest even though I detest snow and cold. I have some Italian blood and some Hispanic but mostly I'm just "melting pot" American. I was university educated in my youth but have used my life to care for and make a pleasant home for my family -- so much so that my first husband complained during our divorce that our life together had become "too comfortable and easy." That's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. (In fact, it was my goal.) I guess he just wanted more adrenaline in his life. So okay. Each to his own. I happen to like peace in my home and I think comfort and ease with the people in my life is a good thing. I'm going to stick with that. To that end, you'll find my home not spotless but generally tidy (I am currently working on de-cluttering) and, I'm sure courtesy of my Roman blood, a good stash of food in my... well, everywhere. (I was snowed-in with my daughter a few winters back and ate for an entire week without worrying about going to the grocery to re-stock.)

What else? I was an "Army wife" between the ages of 26 and 30, a long time ago but I vividly remember the heartache of deployments and challenges of military life. Being dead broke was one of those military challenges but it gave me good practice for budgeting that I used (and still use) after I had to start living on only my disability check. I am a big DIYer, despite my various and sundry physical limitations, so that also helps in stretching my budget. In fact, the house where I currently live started as a HUGE DIY fixer-upper project. I think it is looking pretty good after a decade or so of project after project.

Last but not least, I have raised two, beautiful, children, one male and one female. They drove me crazy when they were young but have both turned into fine adults that I am proud to call mine.

Why "Sunshyne?"

Way back in the days when I was young(er) and world-wide connectivity was pretty new, I used to have an internet friend -- a computer tech at my ISP. I was learning how to program web pages with raw HTML at the time, so was online every day. Every morning when I got online, my friend would greet me, "Good morning, Sunshine." I liked the nickname so well that I started using it as my screen name and even bought the URL sunshyne.net (sunshine was already taken) for my webpage. I've kept the URL since then and think it fits my current blog quite nicely.
